Your data, explained plainly

Privacy Policy

This page explains, in plain English, what information FishioHub collects, how advertising and affiliate links work on this site, and what choices you have. No legal jargon for its own sake — just what you'd actually want to know before reading our guides.

Last updated: June 2026 Applies to: fishiohub.com and all its pages Contact: support@fishiohub.com

01 Who we are

FishioHub.com is a freshwater aquarium resource covering fish, shrimp, snails, and aquatic plant care. The site is independently run by Anil Satak, a zoologist with a lifelong fishkeeping background. You can read more on our About Anil Satak page.

This policy covers every page on fishiohub.com. If you have any questions after reading it, our contact page reaches a real person, not a ticketing system.

02 Data we collect

We try to collect as little as possible. Here's exactly what does and doesn't happen when you visit:

Data typeWhen it's collectedWhy
Pages viewed, approximate location (country/city level), device and browser typeAutomatically, on every visit, via server logs and any analytics tool we useUnderstand which guides are useful and fix technical problems
Name and email addressOnly if you submit our contact formTo reply to your message
Cookies set by Google AdSense and affiliate partnersWhile ads or affiliate links are present on the pageAd delivery, fraud prevention, and commission tracking — see Sections 3 and 5
Payment or financial informationNeverWe don't sell anything directly on this site

We do not require account creation to read any guide, and we do not sell or rent your personal information to anyone.

03 Advertising & Google AdSense

FishioHub may show ads served by Google AdSense, a third-party advertising network. This is how we keep every care guide on this site free to read.

What this means for you: Google and its advertising partners use cookies and similar technologies to serve ads based on your prior visits to this and other websites. Google's use of advertising cookies enables it and its partners to serve ads based on your visits to our site and/or other sites on the internet.

You can opt out of personalized advertising by visiting Google's Ad Settings. For users in the EEA, UK, and Switzerland, you can also review choices through aboutads.info or the Network Advertising Initiative opt-out page.

Third-party vendors, including Google, may also use cookies to serve ads based on someone's past visits to FishioHub. Ad networks we may use, now or in the future, include Google AdSense and similar Google-certified ad partners.

04 Cookies & how to control them

A cookie is a small text file stored on your device. FishioHub uses cookies for a few specific purposes:

  • Essential cookies — keep the site functioning correctly (e.g. remembering that you've seen a notice).
  • Advertising cookies — set by Google AdSense and ad partners to deliver and measure ads (see Section 3).
  • Affiliate tracking cookies — set by retailers like Amazon when you click an affiliate link, so they can credit us for a qualifying purchase (see Section 5).
  • Analytics cookies — if and when we use a tool such as Google Analytics, to understand traffic patterns (see Section 6).

You can control or delete cookies through your browser settings at any time. Blocking cookies entirely may limit some site functionality but will not prevent you from reading any guide on FishioHub. Most browsers let you:

  • View what cookies are stored and delete them individually
  • Block third-party cookies by default
  • Block all cookies from specific sites
  • Block all cookies from being set
  • Delete all cookies when you close your browser

05 Affiliate links

Some links on FishioHub are affiliate links — most commonly through the Amazon Associates program. If you click one and make a qualifying purchase, we may earn a small commission at no extra cost to you. This never changes the price you pay.

We only recommend products we've genuinely researched or used ourselves. Full details are on our Affiliate Disclaimer page. Affiliate networks set their own tracking cookies when you click through, governed by their own privacy policies (for example, Amazon's Privacy Notice).

06 Analytics

We may use an analytics tool such as Google Analytics to understand, in aggregate, which guides are most useful and where visitors come from. If and when this is active, it works similarly to AdSense: it uses cookies and collects information such as your approximate location, device type, and on-site behavior — but not your name, email, or any way to identify you personally, unless you've separately provided that to us via our contact form.

You can opt out of Google Analytics tracking across all sites using the Google Analytics Opt-out Browser Add-on.

07 Contact form data

When you use our contact form, we collect your name, email address, the reason you selected, and your message. This is sent directly to our support inbox (support@fishiohub.com) so we can reply to you. We don't add you to a mailing list or share this information with advertisers.

We keep contact form submissions only as long as needed to resolve your inquiry, and generally delete older correspondence on a routine basis unless we have a legitimate reason to retain it (such as an ongoing collaboration).

08 Comments (if enabled)

If FishioHub enables comments on any guide, the comment text, your display name, and (if provided) email address are stored to display and moderate the comment. We may use an encrypted (hashed) version of your email to check whether it's associated with a Gravatar profile picture. Comments may be screened by an automated spam filter before publishing.

09 Third parties & embedded content

Some guides may embed content from other sites (for example, a YouTube video on tank setup). Embedded content behaves exactly as if you'd visited that third-party site directly — it may set its own cookies, collect data about your interaction, and is governed by that site's own privacy policy, not ours.

10 How we share data

We share data only in these limited circumstances:

  • With Google AdSense and any analytics provider, strictly to serve ads and measure traffic (see Sections 3 and 6)
  • With affiliate networks, only the click-tracking data needed to credit a referral (see Section 5)
  • With email or hosting service providers strictly to operate this website
  • If required by law, such as a valid legal request

We do not sell personal data, and we do not share your contact form submissions with any third party for marketing purposes.

11 Data retention

Server logs are typically retained for a limited period for security and troubleshooting purposes. Contact form messages are kept only as long as reasonably needed to respond to you. Cookies set by Google AdSense, analytics, or affiliate partners follow each provider's own retention periods, which we don't control — see their respective policies linked throughout this page.

12 Your rights

Depending on where you live, you may have rights under laws like the GDPR (EU/UK) or CCPA (California) regarding your personal data, including the right to:

  • Know what personal data we hold about you
  • Request a copy of that data
  • Request correction or deletion of that data
  • Object to or restrict certain processing
  • Opt out of personalized advertising (see Section 3)

To exercise any of these rights regarding data you've submitted to us directly (such as through our contact form), email support@fishiohub.com. For data held by Google or affiliate networks, you'll need to use their own privacy tools linked in Sections 3 and 6, since we don't have access to their systems.

13 Children's privacy

FishioHub is intended for a general audience interested in aquarium keeping and is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us personal information, contact us and we will remove it.

14 Data security

We take reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect any data submitted to us, including secure hosting and access controls. However, no method of transmission over the internet is 100% secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.

15 Changes to this policy

We may update this policy as our site, tools, or legal obligations change — for example, if we add a new ad network or analytics tool. The "Last updated" date at the top of this page will always reflect the most recent revision. We encourage you to review this page occasionally.
