Affiliate Disclaimer

Some links on FishioHub are affiliate links. This page explains exactly how that works, which programs we use, and — more importantly — how we keep affiliate income from ever influencing what we recommend.

01 FTC compliance notice

In accordance with the Federal Trade Commission's (FTC) Guides Concerning the Use of Endorsements and Testimonials, FishioHub.com discloses that certain links on this website are affiliate links. This means that if you click on one of these links and make a qualifying purchase, we may receive a commission from the retailer — at absolutely no extra cost to you.

This disclosure applies to every page on this site where a product link, gear recommendation, or "Check price" button appears, whether or not that page repeats this notice individually.

02 What is an affiliate link?

An affiliate link is a tracked URL provided by a retailer's affiliate program. When you click it, a small cookie is stored in your browser so the retailer knows the visit came from FishioHub. If you complete a qualifying purchase within that program's tracking window, we earn a small commission.

The price you pay is identical to clicking the retailer's link directly. In some cases, a special promotion may even mean a better deal than going in cold.

03 Programs we participate in

FishioHub is currently a participant in the following affiliate program:

🛒 Amazon Associates

As an Amazon Associate, we earn from qualifying purchases made through Amazon links on this site. This includes aquarium equipment, filtration systems, test kits, substrate, and other freshwater aquarium products we mention in our guides.

If FishioHub joins additional affiliate programs in the future — for example, a specialty aquarium retailer — this section will be updated to name that program specifically. We don't list vague or unnamed "partner programs"; if a program isn't named here, we're not part of it.

04 Where you'll see these links

Affiliate links typically appear in:

  • Equipment and gear recommendations (filters, heaters, test kits, lighting)
  • Species care guides, where we link to specific tank setups or supplies we've used
  • Comparison tables between products
  • "Best of" or buyer's-guide-style articles

We do not use affiliate links inside species identification content or safety-critical information (such as ammonia or water-quality warnings) in a way that could pressure a purchase decision during an emergency situation.

05 Our editorial standards

Having an affiliate program available for a product does not mean we will recommend it. Every recommendation on FishioHub has to clear the same bar, regardless of commission:

🔬 Personal or researched use

Wherever possible, gear recommendations come from products Anil has personally used in his own fishkeeping, or has researched thoroughly against manufacturer specs and verified user feedback.

🐠 Fit for freshwater tanks specifically

We evaluate products against real freshwater aquarium needs — bioload, tank size, species compatibility — not generic "aquarium" marketing claims.

🚫 No pay-for-placement

We never accept payment from a brand in exchange for a positive review or higher ranking in a comparison. Affiliate commission is earned only if you choose to buy — it doesn't buy a spot on the page.

✍️ Honest about downsides

If a product has a real drawback — price, durability, noise, fit for smaller tanks — we say so, even on items we ultimately recommend.

06 No extra cost to you

The short version: clicking our links never makes anything more expensive. You pay the retailer's normal price. The commission comes out of the retailer's marketing budget, not your wallet.

Using our links is one of the simplest ways to support continued, free, ad-light publishing on FishioHub — but it's entirely optional, and every guide on this site is fully readable and useful whether or not you ever click a product link.

07 Relationship to Google AdSense

Separately from affiliate links, FishioHub may also display ads served through Google AdSense. Affiliate links and AdSense ads are two distinct revenue sources and work differently: affiliate links are commission-based and tied to specific products we choose to mention, while AdSense ads are served automatically by Google and aren't individually selected by us.

Full detail on how AdSense, cookies, and ad personalization work on this site is covered in our Privacy Policy.

08 What we don't do

  • We don't accept "guaranteed positive review" deals from brands or sellers.
  • We don't insert affiliate links into content that wasn't written with that product genuinely in mind.
  • We don't disguise an affiliate link as a non-commercial citation or scientific source.
  • We don't claim to have tested a product hands-on unless we actually have.

09 Changes to this disclaimer

If we join a new affiliate program, drop an existing one, or change how links are used on the site, we'll update this page and the "Last updated" date above. We don't backdate or hide changes — if you're curious about the history of our affiliate relationships, our contact page is the fastest way to ask.

10 Questions about a specific link

If you ever see a product link on FishioHub and want to know whether it's an affiliate link, which program it belongs to, or why we recommended it, just ask — we'll tell you plainly.
